ALPEIS aka ALPS [2011]

Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos brings back his special blend of horrifying, humorous and really, really weird to the screen.
While his previous feature, Dogtooth was about people trying to break free from a fabricated world, this one is about people building a fabricated world around them for other's benefits.
At turns Alps is wickedly funny in a "I think there's something wrong with me" kind of way and at other times it's so damned weird and unsettling you wonder who would think of this and why would you watch it.
Lanthimos' use of color is absolutely brilliant. I could watch his framing work and photography forever. It's like a moving painting that gives the feeling of something just around the corner that you can't see.
Highly recommended once again.
