A look at the work done by the National Film Registry, an American organisation set up to preserve their own Country’s rich film history.
A large chunk of the early years of cinema can be seen as a reflection of the cultural and political climate of the time, so it’s important to be able to revisit it and make comparisons. I may not agree with how they select what to include, but I can’t argue with the importance of their work. The art of visual storytelling is as crucial as painting or music in shaping a culture.
Note: mild spoilers for some old films, particularly in the last half hour.
