28 WEEKS LATER [2007]

Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's 28 Weeks Later, the sequel to Danny Boyle's "zombie" cult classic, shows a lot of promise in the first hour.  Unfortunately it spoils almost instantly, when it drops the potential of being a fantastic character study of conflict and falls into endless action & explosions.  It's still thrilling and disturbingly terrifying but somehow feels empty with it's focus on too many one-dimensional characters.
On the plus side, the kids are great and never step into the all too common trap of stupid and/or annoying.

I watched this again. Considering how little I remembered about it (ie. nil) you could say I watched it for the first time all over again.

The last 20 minutes were less than spectacular but up until then, I loved it.
Do you recall the scene as the guy runs toward the boat, and the Murphy goodness builds and builds in the background? That was fecking tense.

The most unbelievable thing of all was that the Americans were there to help out. No one would give a shit if Britain got overrun by rabid Englishmen. They’d just leave them to it and find some other country to import their beer.

Same score. If those last 20 minutes could’ve been tightened, it’d be 3.5.
